Paper Doll Show - Boxes
I consider my self so lucky to have been invited to participate in the paper doll show. What a great idea! Paper dolls, they are art to be played with. They are for play! My initial reaction was to make little house sculptures and make their flags the interchangeable. But as I was cleaning out my shed, I came across a stack of these old photographs that I bought at the Possum Trot Auction about 10 years ago for about $2. I have always loved them, but I have never know what to do with them. I pulled them out and put them on my desk to mull over them. Finally it hit me! I could use them for the paper doll show, by making up scenes, lives, dreams for the subjects. So, that is what I did!
Each box has an old photo mounted on to a piece of wood, with a frame in front of it to slide the chosen scene in front. There is also a little storage area in the back (which can be seen below, in the photos of Happy Lynn) to store the scenes that are not in use. They are all pretty small, all under 6"x6"x3". As for the names of the people I used, those are their real names, which were on the backs of the photos.
The two pictures below are images of them in the Duckett Gallery at the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center of Arts & Education in Ocean Springs Mississippi.
These are available for sale at my Etsy Shop

Mad Cow
I was drawn to this picture, probably because it is one I would take my self! I love cows, and what a good ole cow this looks to be. She also seems to be hiding something behind that fence!

Happy Lynn
Lynn is a happy little girl, but also a little mischievous, as most good people are!

The Mr. Ray Haliwell HImself
Ray took this picture of himself, it said so on the back of this. This was way before facebook. I wonder who he was trying to impress, and did they know his other sides?

A Willing Lot
I wonder what they built? I have some ideas!

The Front Yard
This is such a 1950's picture. Look at all of the trees. I bet it doesn't look like that now.

Thoughtful Dog
This dog is more than meets the eye. He is ambitious!
